Japan rocks!
Greetings from hakata everybody. We`re having an amazing time in japan. It`s so brilliant to be back here promoting our new mini album. We had a Radio interview last night and then met the buyers at HMV and tower who have kindly racked `stop gap product` out and put it on the listening stations! The Gig in Osaka was great fun and really busy. Some fans had brought the most amazing things to sign. One guy even had a flyer from a gig we did at the dublin castle camden in about 1953. Where do they get the stuff from? We also met up with the Street team girls who have been doing a fantastic job in getteing the band known in Japan. We also found out that a huge (and really brilliant ) band called Asian Kung Fu Generation are fans of Farrah. They`re playing the Budakan in Tokyo the same night we`re playing our Egging records night. We@re hoping to go and catch their set It`s hot here too and the food... don`t get me started on the food..mmmmmmm. hope all is well with all of you all the best Jez
Japan tomorrow
Wow, can't believe we're off to Japan tomorrow. This rock and roll lifestyle isn't too bad. Hello to anyone out there who's coming too see us! Jez
Austin's powers
O.K, I admit the headline is a bad pun but I thought i'd send you all greetings from Austin Texas. i'm having a brilliant time and eating amazing mexican food which bears liitle resemblance to the stuff we get back home. It's pretty warm here and I'm sleeping in a studio with a marshall stack as a bedside table. It's like a teenage fantasy come true.... I' wrote a new farrah song this morning while I had coffee and watched the cowboys mosey on by. I hope you're all having a great weekend. All the best jez
Happy Birthday to ....me
Hi everyone, I'm finally recovered from my Birthday. It was a blast. It was especially lovely to see so many of you at the Farrah gig on Sunday. I even got lovely gifts (thanks Sandrine). the gig was fun although too short for my liking. Good reviews are starting to come in for the album and we're off to japan in a couple of weeks. hope all is well out there. All t'best jez x
arriba
Hola! Back from Spain and some very successfull shows. Madrid was almost sold out (The Moby Dick) as was Valencia (a mini-festical with 4 bands). Barcelona was shite and deserted (as always - too cool for us) and the Ricoamor in Castellón was sold out and rocked as always. Bombones supported us along the way and really proved that they can pull-off their own brand of Spanish pop-rock live. Thanks once again to Santi for baby-sitting us. We played at the mighty JimmyK's (see under "light sabre") birthday party on Friday (in London) and the rest of the band are only now recovering from their Champagne hangovers (actually thats not true, as it was very expensive champagne which apparently means you don't get hangovers from it - it must have been the mixture of free beer and spirits). ac (Jez has buggered off to write songs for other people in the US of A again)
Back In Blighty
Well, my jet lag seems to have worn off and I've prised my stetson off. I had a weird sense of pride when i got to Gatwick and al the airport staff were surly and unhelpful. I love the U.K. This week we're doing some rehearsing to get into shape for our Spanish tour. We're hoping to throw a couple of new songs into the set. Hope all is good with you all out there
drivin my truck...
is a funny thing. There are lots of huge cars here. i don't quite understand why you would need a humvee in tennessee just to go shopping. it's been a busy old week. I went to see Nick Lowe last night which was great. He's one of the fathers of powerpop. 'Cruel to be kind' is a classic. For those who don't know, as well as being an artist in his own right, he produced albums for elvis costello amongst many others. it was a really good gig (even though it was seated) Wilco were doing an outdoor gig tonight but i couldn't get there unfortunately. Today i was writing with a great writer. In every session i'm learning such a lot. it's a unique town from a song writing perspective. it's been really good fun so far. I'm really looking forward to getting back to all things farrah. I hope y'all have ordered the album. did I say Y'all... Dagnabbit! lots of peace, love and understanding. jez x
I like nashville.
hello everyone, It's friday night in nashville and i've been writing today with an ultra talented writer called bill demain. We wrote a song about a travel agent which seemed fitting as i've been travelling a lot this year. I went to see the metallica film yesterday which was amazing and pretty funny too. I'm getting to know nashville a little bit now and not getting lost so much. It's a real shame that I'm missing my dear friend Sarah D's wedding to Rich. A lot of my friends will be pretty pissed by now and dancing on a table. I hope all is well with all of you out there. Hope you have a great weekend All the best jez
Well hey y'all
It's Jez here in rainy Nashville. I'm here to write with some country writers for a couple of weeks which should be fun. All is great in farrah world. Our album is finally coming out in the U.K on a small but perfectly formed label called Lojinx. It's been a long wait but soon you'll be able to go into a record shop and buy the record, or buy it online I want to say thanks on behalf of the whole band to all of you out there who have been so patient. the next thing on our list is trying to get on a U.K tour so we can get out there and see you all! My favourite song title out here is 'Save a horse (ride a cowboy).. That's all for now Jez
too hot to strum
hello all, just a quick hello as my euro in the internet cafe is about to run out. I?m in sunny Spain again this week. I?ve been sitting by the pool and pondering lyrics and songs for the next Farrah releases- and getting pissed obviously. I love any country that sells wine for 50 pence. Last weekend I was at the big Chill festival which was very ...er.... chilled. The ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain?s version of Kate Bush?s Wuthering Heights will stay with me forever. Hope you?re all having a great summer. I read the post about Andy?s record breaking mintathon, he?s a dark horse that one. He does have very fragrant breath though. Argh, 1 minute left. Bye Jez
Barcelona.
Hello everyone. I'm packing my bags for a weekend in Barcelona which should be fun. I just wanted you to know that the new tracks we're working on are sounding great. It's been a busy week. Hope all is good with you all. Should have mentioned that I met Ben Folds in Nashville which was great as I love his songs. I also went to the Fastball gig at the Water rats which was a good Piss Up. A few of the tracks on their most recent album are produced by Adam Schlesinger form Fountains of Wayne who incidentally are playing in London in August. I hope to see you there. Jezx
Mel Bun
Apparently, and not Mel-bourne. So here we are, in the middle of Australian winter, freezing our cajones off in Melbourne while there is a heatwave melting the UK. Bloody typical. Luckily we're heading off to Darwin in the next few days where the temperatures are little more like the unfeasible heat one comes to expect this side of the planet. Melbourne is pretty cool. It's kinda like the Camden of Australia. Except the thriving music scene here is driven by passion for music rather than haircuts and whats in fasion at the time (ouch!). We saw the Montana boys last week who are in fine form and are looking forward to hopefully touring with us in Europe later this year. It'd be great to do a UK tour with them. They played us a fine rendition a Prince song which rocked but was simply too tall. Pat Montana is in also in Melbourne this weekend so he's promised to show us whats happening down here. Should be fun. ac
Washington
Hello everyone, It's a quick diary entry because I'm on stage in half an hour Drove to Washington DC today and we're going to look around after the gig. Being on the road is always a lot more exciting in a foreign country (i ceased to get goosebumps at M1 Tibshelf services a couple of years ago) All the food you can eat in this country is alarming. Big portions and cheap too. My favourite signs i've seen by the freeway have been 'You gotta eat!' as if people in this country might forget and 'Pete's bar, a place to drink' which kind of states the obvious. The songwriting has been going well too. I'll be putting some photos on the site when i get a moment. Hope all of you are enjoying the weekend. Yee hah! Jez
somewhere over the rainbow....
weigh a pie. Well I know I'm in Tennessee not Kansas but there's been a tornado forecast tonight! pretty scary. Perhaps I'm already in the land of Oz. Andy C updating the diary page?! Good work Mr Campbell A strange synchronicity in the air with two of the band in Oz, and myself in danger of getting transported to Oz via tornado.... perhaps it's just me. It's memorial weekend in the States this weekend so the whole of Nashville is in Party mood. I've been writing today but have also had time to meet a few songwriter guys at a friend's house. O.K I got a bit drunk hope all of you are having a great weekend.
We're all going on a...
This is not Jez for a change! He's jetted off on a plane to Nashville for a few weeks to learn lap steel and work on his mullet. We had a wierd 24 hours in Paris. A 6am start for an 8.30am sound check for an 11am radio gig. We got there to find that not only was the studio *huge* but that there was a studio audience of several hundred! And we had come dressed for radio. oh well. We played a paricularly loud version of "Daytime TV" and a piano-accompanied version of "Different for Girls" to several million french radio listeners. After lunch with the French record label it was back on the train to blighty. All over too soon. Michelle and I are off to Australia for most of June to hang out with Montana and enjoy the antipodean winter. So all will be quiet in the Farrah camp 'till we re-group in July to work on some new songs and promote "Me Too" finally being released in the UK (currently scheduled for september). So hopefully we'll finally get another full UK tour off the ground! See you on the road.... ac x
Hello Campers
Good afternoon everybody, I trust you're having a wonderful weekend. As usual, it's a diary entry from me as the other members of the band can never be arsed to update this page (or even upload some new photos). Needless to say I'm suffering from a mild hangover. I've spent most of the last week writing songs for other people and trying to finish off some Farrah lyrics for our mini album. The band is taking all of June off as we're all off to far flung parts of the world. I'm going to Nashville to dip my toe into the world of Country writing which I'm really excited about. I wonder if I'll be able to write about porches? The band are going to Paris next weekend for a Radio session. Me Too is due for French release later on this year so it's a chance for us to familiarise French listeners with our brand of Powerpop. Can't wait. Hope you're all nursing enormous hangovers as well ta ta for now Jez
Back from Madrid....
Happy Sunday everybody, I hope everyone is having a great weekend! I'm still recovering from Madrid. My neck is extremely sore from headbanging so much at the gig. It was really special to be invited to be part of our label's 10th anniversary party. We arrived in Madrid on Thursday and basically spent the day chilling out. Will, our manager took us out for some great Tapas in the evening and then we popped in to a party full of Madrid's glitterati (Beckham wasn't there). On Friday we did a live session 'Radio Tres' (I hope you can translate this for me) which is Spain's equivalent of Radio two here. We did live acoustic versions of Give an Inch and First and Last. Next stop was Fnac records which is like Madrid's Tower Records store. We performed an in-store 6 song acoustic set to a packed audience who consisted of Farrah fans and old people who saw the words 'free' and 'sit down' and got excited. The gig at El Sol that night was really good. We were supported by Bonbones (who were really good in Teenage Fanclub/Supergrass way, and Guru Deva who were a bit more country rock tinged. We played for 45 minutes and finished the set with a new song called Can't Do Right (for doing wrong) which didn't sound as shambolic as I thought it would. All in all it was a great trip and fantastic to catch up with our friends Pablo, Santi and Mayte. Plans are to go back to Spain and tour later in the Year. Rock And Roll sucks?.NOT.
terminal velocity
Hey folks, just got back from terminal studios where we've been working on new tracks for our forthcoming mini album which is due for japanese release later on this year. It was great fun to be working on new songs. We'll be putting up some photo's(andy?) so you can see what we're up to. I'm sipping a glass of wine looking forward to a few more days of hard work (with lots of curry). Hope you're all enjoying the Bank Holiday weekend in a suitably inebriated fashion. Thanks for the comments on the Video. It was brilliant having such a huge budget and watching all the O.B (outside broadcast) trucks block the traffic in one of Tokyo's busiest squares. I wish i had a runner getting my tea and coffee every day.... brilliant editing by Frank Reebie, I look almost human! Jez
hey, my life IS duller than yours!
Hello, it's a very hungover Jez here with tales of rock and roll. Actually I haven't been very rock and roll at all. I did drink a stupid amount last night and talked a lot of bollocks which is always worth doing. My favourite hangover cure besides going to the pub is a liverish walk down to the Thames and low quality fried food. none of these worked today unfortunately. The highlight of my month has been the arrival of an antique reed organ which makes the most fantastic sounds. I've written a song for the next album on it called 'everyone knows it but you' which has more than a slight nod to the Beach Boys. I've been listening through some old cassettes of song ideas and weeding out all the crap ones and the inaudible late night drunken ones. Andy and our manager Will are working hard on the video for Tongue Tied which we're releasing as a single in the U.K. watch this space...
Monday morning..
Well it's Monday morning and I'm recovering from a busy weekend rehearsing, recording and drinking. We're all excited about the gig on Wednesday. The band's supporting us are both signed so I reckon it will be a busy night. We've been hard at work writing new songs for the next album and recording new versions of First And Last and Tongue Tied for a Mini Album in the Summer. The Album will also have some new tracks and live tracks as well. We're also very pleased that Bob Harris has put First And Last on his latest "Bob Harris Presents" CD which will be in the shops in May . We've also secured a release for Me Too in The U.K for later on this Year. More news on that soon. I've been moonlighting playing guitar for marvellous Balearic maestros A Man Called Adam who release an album on Fat Boy Slim's label later this Year. I've also been writing lots of songs for other artists as well which is Jolly Good fun.
Jet lag
Wow, Japan is a long way away! Farrah returned yesterday from our first tour of Japan so I wanted to fill you all in on what a fantastic time we had. Firstly, a bit of history: Japan was a place the band had always really wanted to go. Our first single 'Terry' sold well on import there and was a bit of a favourite in the Rock Clubs of Tokyo and Osaka. After securing a deal for "Me Too" with the Japanese independent label Egging Records last Year, the Band have been planning a trip. Nothing prepared us for what a great place Japan was. The gigs were some of the best we'd ever played, the fans were brilliant and the organisation of the tour was first rate. The food.... gorgeous, even for the veggies. The band we Co-headlined with were called "Monastir" from Sweden, they rocked!
Tokyo rocks!
hello from Hakata. just a quick note to say the tour has been fantastic so far! tokyo was rammed full of 350 people paying 30 pounds each to see the band. Autograph mayhem ensued after a really memorable show. the audiences here a fantastic! got to go to soundcheck now see you soon Jez
Kyoto rules!
best wishes to you all from a sunny but cold Kyoto. this City is famed for it`s temples, tofu and shopping and I`ve explored all three. The japanese are so helpful that whenever you`re lost they`ll lead the way. I`ve been lost quite often as english-language street names are a rarity. Got the bullet train (shinkansen) yesterday from Tokyo which was fantastic and high tech.?@
greetings from sunny Tokyo!
talk about culture shock or more accurately culture ROCK! played an acoustic show last night and it was a blinder. the Japanese fans were brilliant and presented me with all manner of farrah goods to sign. From terry on vinyl to Me too on Vinyl! Eating fantastic food and seeing the sights. see you soon!
Happy 2004
Happy New Year folks! It’s Jez here with another sporadic diary entry.I hope you all had a good Christmas. I did except for being in York Casualty on Christmas day with a suspected collapsed lung! I used to get these quite a lot when I was a gangly teen, so much that I had a big operation and an even bigger scar. In fact, this was what convinced me to become a musician in the first place. I originally wanted to be an all England Badminton champion. While I was convalescing my dad bought me a little keyboard and the rest is history. Anyway, The lung wasn’t to bad this Christmas, not bad enough to keep me out of the pub anyway! New Year was spent in Sheffield dancing and drinking til dawn. Since then I’ve been writing new songs for the next album. What’s happening at the moment I hear you cry? Well, we’re organising our first (and hopefully not last) trip to Japan in February. The albums been selling pretty well and there’s a lot to organise and we’re all very excited. I’m flying out a week early so I can do some exploring. Where to go? Gulp. There’s such a lot to cram in. Kyoto? Mt Fuji? I’d better get organised. This week I’ve mostly been watching darts but tomorrow I’m writing with a really successful songwriter who’s had lots of hits so hopefully I’ll learn something. Hope to see you at our gig on the 2nd of Feb at the Water Rats! Lots of love Jezx
